ABOUT US
Liguanea Chess Club was founded on November 11,1997
by National Chess Master and seven times Jamaica Open Champion Geoffrey Byfield. Since then the club has spearheaded several initiatives to expand and intensify the reach of the game in Jamaica.
We have the following programs: Chess in School, Summer, International tournaments, Saturday and Private coaching. We have worked with The Bank of Jamaica to develop a team for the central bank games, worked with NCB to introduce chess to their staff members and worked with Scotiabank and Jamaica National to introduce chess across Jamaica including out of town areas like Montego Bay and Mandeville.
The result is that both qualitatively and quantitatively chess has advanced significantly and is now regarded as the fastest growing sport in Jamaica.
